Vinod Khanna Honoured With Dadasaheb Phalke Award.


  • At the 65th National Film Awards, late actor Vinod Khanna was posthumously honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
  • This award is considered as the highest honour in Indian cinema and is presented annually by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
  • The award is given for a personality’s outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.
  • Vinod Khanna is the 49th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.


Highlights Of The Development-

  • In a career spanning over four decades, Khanna was primarily known for his work in Hindi films during the 1970s. Amar Akbar Anthony, Mere Apne, Hera Pheri, Muqaddar Ka Sikander and Qurbani are just some of the popular films that he has appeared in.
  • After taking a short break from the movies in the 1980s, Khanna returned and gained acclaim for his performances in films like Chandni and Dayavan.
  • He was known for his suave style and composed demeanour. His films alongside Amitabh Bachchan are still remembered as some of their best work. In his later years, Vinod Khanna appeared in many popular films like Wanted, Dabangg and Dilwale among many others.
  • In the past, Dadasaheb Phalke Award has been given to celebrated film personalities like music director Naushad, filmmaker Satyajit Ray, filmmaker Raj Kapoor, singer Lata Mangeshkar, actor Dilip Kumar, actor Dev Anand, filmmaker Yash Chopra among many others.
  • Writer Gulzar, actors Shashi Kapoor and Manoj Kumar have also been conferred with this honour.

Cabinet Approves Headquarters (Host Country) Agreement Between India And The International Solar Alliance.


  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its ex-post facto approval for entering into Headquarters (Host country) Agreement between India and the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and authorizing the Ministry of External Affairs for signing the Headquarter Agreement.
  • The Agreement was signed on 26th March, 2018.


Highlights Of The Development-

  • The Headquarters Agreement will institutionalize the functional arrangements between India and ISA.
  • It will help in smooth transition of ISA as international inter-governmental organization.
  • Creation of ISA will lead to accelerated solar technology development and deployment in ISA member countries including India.

DefExpo 2018: Boeing Signs Deal With HAL, Mahindra To Make Fighter Jet.


  • Boeing India has signed an agreement with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), and Mahindra Defence Systems (MDS) at the Defence Expo 2018 here to manufacture Super Hornet fighter aircraft in India.
  • The companies will manufacture F/A-18 Super Hornet for India’s armed forces.
  • The memorandum for the ‘Make in India’ fighter jets was signed by Boeing India president Pratyush Kumar, HAL Chairman and MD T. Suvarna Raju, and MDS chairman S.P. Shukla.


Highlights Of The Development-

  • The Super Hornet Make-in-India proposal is to build an entirely new and state-of-the-art production facility that can be utilised for other programmes like India’s Advance Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme, a press release said.
  • The F/A- 18 Super Hornet will deliver on India’s need for a carrier- and land- based multi-role fighter and the agreement will address the infrastructure personnel training, and the operational tools and techniques required to produce a next-gen fighter aircraft in India, the release added.
