Logical positivism was the philosophical movement initiated by a group of thinkers who lived in the 1920s. Elimination of metaphysics can be traced back to hume and kant. However, it was LP who led the organised revolts against the metaphysics.
As per A.J.Ayer’s verification theory, metaphysical statement and statement regarding nature of god is neither verifiable directly nor indirectly, or by weak and strong verification. It has no relation with the observation. For example-‘God is in heaven’. It is beyond the theory of verification, hence meaningless.
Rudolph carnap and Wittgenstein has also maintained that metaphysical statements are not meaningful and they are sterile in nature.
    Critical Analysis:
Logical positivism deprived philosophy of its traditional functions of being surveyor of knowledge and determiner of what constitute valid knowledge and to reveal to man the hidden laws of universe.
They have the restricted philosophy to narrow and technical function of evaluating science assertions.
Principle of verification is grossly exaggerated and there are many fundamental beliefs which are beyond verification yet stand true.
LP conception of knowledge is too mechanical.

But as a matter of fact, LP has reduced the importance of metaphysics in some respect which revived by further philosophy.
