Kant is considered as the critical philosopher and he achieved a synthesis between the competing tradition of rationalism and empiricism. As per Kant, “all our knowledge begins with the senses, proceeds to understanding and ends with reason”.
Like understanding unifies the sensation, so the reason instead of unifying the objects, unifies the understanding itself. There are three kinds of inference: soul, world and God.
Antinomies: Illusion related to world is antinomies.
Just as immortal soul cannot be known, so the world as a whole or as an ultimate reality being suprasensible is not known. But, mind attempts to know all the objects comprising nature and world as ultimate reality and in this human understanding trespasses its limitations and venture beyond the knowable because knowledge is limited to the phenomenology. There are four antinomies according to quality, quantity, relation and modality which respectively refer to four fold problems of composition, division, origination and dependence of existence. The antinomies show that contradictory statements can be made about the universal and can be proven in an equally valid way
